Salone del mobile’s Fuorisalone is one of the most decentralized events in the world. Many neighborhoods in Milan set up exhibitions and events that the local and international audiences navigate in different ways. Some select the designers, shows and places they would like to see, others wander the streets of Milan letting the Fuorisalone surprise them. The aim of “ill at ease” was to revert that format by bringing happenings directly to the audience in Milanese squares with high foot traffic.

A restless soul, having always to change place because it cannot stay put, is ill at ease. During the Design Week of 2023 this happening showcased all around Milan works by some of the most acclaimed designer-artists in the field.

Thanks to highly sophisticated technology, “ill at ease” included an ever-changing digital art exhibition with screens and projectors featuring works inside and outside a 7 m van and a live-recording station through which the artists and the curators recorded a podcast. Moreover, each artist submitted a signature seating (sofa, chair or armchair) to create a sort of open-air salotto (living room) that the audience interacted with.
